Instruments for the lab and the clinic

Much of our work ends up as a physical instrument. Some examples:

  • Culture monitoring. A low-cost top-stage incubator with integrated lens-free holographic imaging lets cells be watched continuously without moving them out of their environment.
  • Spectrometers. Speckle-enhanced prism spectrometers combine a simple prism with a scattering element to reach high resolution and dynamic range in a compact package (US Patent 11,231,322).
  • Fabrication with holographic feedback. Maskless lithography that checks the part being made with holography during fabrication, for producing optical elements.
  • Microscope autofocus (WO 2024/208601), and real-time holographic tracking and control of microrobots.

Undergraduate teams build working devices too; see the student projects.
