Lab and equipment
Our optical lab at Istanbul Medipol University, Kavacık campus, has the sources, modulators, detectors and microscopes we need to build and test holographic instruments, from single components up to complete microscopes.

Microscopes
Nanolive 3D Cell Explorer
Holotomographic microscope for label-free 3D refractive-index imaging of living cells.
Zeiss Axio Observer 7
Inverted research microscope; the base of our augmented-reality microscopy set-up.
Microscope objectives
A range of magnifications and numerical apertures for the lab-built holographic microscopes.
Light sources
Lasers
Coherent sources for holography and interferometry.
Laser controllers
Current and temperature control for stable laser output.
Light control and modulation
Spatial light modulator
Displays phase patterns that shape the light; used for optical computing in augmented-reality microscopy.
2D galvanometric mirrors
Fast two-axis beam steering, for scanning the illumination angle in holotomography.
Liquid crystal tunable filter
Selects the transmitted wavelength electronically, for multi-wavelength imaging.
Liquid crystal variable retarder
Sets the polarization state of light electronically.
Electro-optic modulator
Fast electronic control of the phase or polarization of light.
Detection and measurement
Cameras
CMOS cameras that record the holograms, including two Basler cameras contributed by Nanolive SA.
Optical spectrometer
Measures the spectrum of light sources and samples.
Optical power meter
Measures beam power for alignment and calibration.
Prototyping
3D printer
Zortrax M200
Prints custom mounts, holders and housings for our set-ups.
Infrastructure
Optical tables
Vibration-isolated tables for interferometric set-ups.
Computers
Workstations for hologram reconstruction, simulation and instrument control.
